Vacations in Torre Vado: what to see

Torre_vado

A handful of kilometers from Santa Maria di Leuca to the south and the beach of Pescoluse and Maldive del Salento to the north, lies Torre Vado, a marina on the Ionian coast. The hamlet of Morciano di Leuca offers crystal-clear sea and many vacation homes where you can spend a peaceful stay between Torre Vado and Pescoluse. Here is a guide on everything you need to know and what to visit in Torre Vado.

The Sea of Torre Vado and the Springs

The coast of this Capo di Leuca seaside resort is characterized by low cliffs, small sandy coves, smooth and polished pebbles, and clear and clean sea. Here, moreover, there are stretches where the waters are spring, and therefore cold and regenerating.

A vacation destination for the morciano di Leuca community, Torre Vado has apartments for rent, and several Salento vacation homes can be found around here. In addition to the low, accessible cliffs, there is a short stretch of beach with fine sand. Here on the Torre Vado beach, there is no shortage of equipped lidos.

Beyond the small harbor, where small boats moor, is the area of the Sorgenti. Between low, flat rocks open up fresh spring water springs that in ancient times were used to quench thirst. Bathing in these icy waters, especially during hot, sunny summer days, will be like being reborn. Highly recommended to awaken blood circulation.

Those who book vacation apartments in Torre Vado particularly choose its sea, characterized by shallow waters up to a few meters from the shore, which gradually becomes deeper. Although there are mainly rocks, the resort is very popular in summer.

The most welcoming, smooth and polished rocks are those in the Pozzo Pasulo area. The white pebbles also make it safe for young children to swim. To fully enjoy this stretch of coastline, the best wind is the tramontana. When the African sirocco wind blows, however, the waters are rough.

The seabed, favored by fishermen and divers.

The seabed , as those who own vacation homes in Torre Vado in Puglia know, is rich in fish such as bream, redfish, mullet and bass. It also features lush and thriving vegetation. This is why this expanse of transparent water is perfect for snorkeling.

In addition to the aquatic flora and fauna that populate the seabed of Torre Vado with their colors, diving enthusiasts can admire at a depth of about 24 meters the wreck of a Turkish ship that sank in 2007.

One can also contact the nearby diving center to take courses or book excursions or rent equipment, while staying in one of the vacation homes for rent in Torre Vado.

Other interesting facts about the marina in Torre Vado

In Torre Vado there is an ancient watchtower, one of the many sentinels of the sea built as a defensive system by Charles V, in the 16th century, to face the hordes of pirates arriving from the Mediterranean. It has an access staircase, spread over two floors and is framed by battlements, small windows and loopholes.

This tower communicated on sight with Torre Pali to the north and Torre San Ligorio to the south. Being very close to the town of Salve, it was elected a cavalry tower. From here messengers on horseback carried distress signals to inland towns until 1846.

At the foot of this tower the small harbor was developed, and from here the Torre Vado seafront promenade starts, ideal for evening strolls. The promenade starts from Piazza Torre and goes all the way to the locality of Posto Vecchio. Here you can find bars, restaurants and delicatessens, to have an aperitif right by the sea. Especially indicated is the time of sunset, since in some periods you can admire the sun descending directly into the Ionian Sea.

Events, markets and other ideas

Those who book a studio apartment in Torre Vado for their vacation or an apartment in Torre Vado with pets allowed, or even any other type of vacation solution, can also enjoy various evening events such as concerts and events held in the summer. In addition, for the little ones, there is also a small amusement park.

Every Friday evening in the summer, there is a classic market with clothing and household goods. As for weekly morning markets, however, the closest one is held in Morciano di Leuca every Tuesday morning.

If you want to explore the coastline by sea, boats depart daily from the small port of Torre Vado for guided tours, including at the nearby coastal caves all the way to Leuca.

Those who spend their vacations in Torre Vado, if they are keen on birdwatching, can admire several species of waterfowl and swans that have chosen its waters as their preferred resting place during migration, but they are mostly visible in winter.

Lovers of the rural landscapes of Salento can find, in the first hinterland of Torre Vado, numerous rock constructions such as the "pajare" and the characteristic dry stone walls. The "pajare," which represent a bit the trullo of the Lower Salento, today are often converted into vacation homes.

If you want to experience an authentic stay in Lower Salento, know that the "pajare" are the vacation homes in Torre Vado immediately rented and booked by tourists, so it is always advisable to make reservations as soon as possible.
