Guide to the most beautiful beaches in the Gargano

Spiagge_del_gargano

There are places in Apulia that are embraced by beauty and cannot be renounced. Places where the blue that opens before a dreamy gaze inspires joy and purity. The green that tints the background and dips into marine hues softens the land and lends delicacy to the panorama. Welcome to the Gargano, a place full of charm and where wherever the eyes rest they find noteworthy landscape views.

Let's discover together which are the most beautiful beaches of the Gargano where you can spend your vacation immersed in a natural setting of enchantment and authenticity.

Manaccora Beach

Located along the stretch of coastline that connects Vieste and Peschici, Manaccora Bay is one of the most beautiful places in the entire Gargano area. Embellished with soft golden sand, its shoreline is lapped by the waters of the crystal clear sea. The seabed is shallow and sandy, ideal for children and those who cannot swim.

In the background, the lush plants of the Mediterranean maquis tint the picturesque landscape and allow a walk in the midst of nature to enjoy all the shade you need during the hottest hours of the day.

In addition, one has the choice of opting for the part of the beach equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds or the free part. There is no shortage, parties, music and dancing, and there is fun for everyone.

Pizzomunno Beach

Heading south along the outline of the spur of Italy, one encounters the Gargano's most renowned beach. Pizzomunno beach, also known as Scialara beach, a short walk from Vieste, is a fine sandy beach bordered by the white cliff. It takes its name from the famous monolith "Pizzomunno," which legend has it was boy turned to stone by mermaids jealous of his love for Cristalda.

There are bathing establishments for all tastes and large portions of free beach. The shallow water makes Pizzomunno the ideal beach for families with children or inexperienced swimmers.

San Felice Bay

Set in a picturesque landscape setting, San Felice Bay is a small paradise surrounded by greenery. It offers a pretty little beach with a shallow sandy bottom. On the beach there is an equipped part with umbrellas and sunbeds, and a small free beach. Because of its position recessed into a deep inlet, it is protected from almost all winds.

Enriching its scenic beauty is the natural arch or "architello" that makes the surrounding landscape truly enchanting. The architello, as well as the sea caves, is the result of the incessant action that water and wind have imprinted on the karst rock of the Gargano over the centuries.

On the cliff stands a 16th-century watchtower, on which a stop to enjoy the panorama of the town of Vieste and the coastline is a must.

Vignanotica Beach

Following a dirt lane that makes its way through the Mediterranean scrub, you can thus reach the white beach of Vignanotica. With its characteristic white rocks overlooking the sea, it is one of the most beautiful bays on the Gargano peninsula. Beneath the impressive rocks are many small caves that make this place unique. High and pebbly, the seabed offers rare color shades between blue and turquoise.

Here, too, there is the possibility of renting umbrellas, sunbeds, deckchairs and chairs at the bathing establishments that stand on the beach. Cafeterias, refreshment stands and shower facilities complete the service.

Watching the sunset from Vignanotica beach is an unmissable moment, when the embarrassingly tinged sky caresses the white face of the cliffs with its glow.

Zagare Bay Beach

Walking from Vignanotica along the "path of love," a path lined with Aleppo pines and surrounded by Mediterranean scrub, you reach Baia delle Zagare, within the Gargano National Park.

The name Baia delle Zagare comes from the flowers of the citrus plants, lemon and orange, typical of the area. The rustic scent wafts through the air and enraptures the senses into close contact with the most authentic aspect of nature.

The enchanting cove, which looks like something out of a postcard, was listed by the famous National Geographic magazine as one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world.

Bay of Mattinatella

Mattinatella beach cannot be missed among the seaside resorts of this wonderful area of Apulia. It is a beautiful sand and pebble beach set in a high and rocky coastal stretch, surrounded by high sedimentary rocks covered with pine trees.

The Bay is divided in two by a rocky outcrop beyond which nature has remained wild and is embellished by a freshwater spring. For this reason, the bay is also called Rose Fountain.

The sea is enchanting, blue with turquoise hues, crystal clear and with sloping seabed. Ideal for swimming and relaxing bathing. This is also the perfect place for lovers of spearfishing and excursions among the caves.

The beach offers completely free stret ches alternating with well-equipped and organized ones. At it, moreover, just a few meters from the sea, there are numerous typical small restaurants, always well stocked with first fruits of the sea.
