Non seulement sa présence rend la chaleur torride moins étouffante, mais elle a aussi une influence décisive sur l'état de la mer sur laquelle il souffle. Très souvent, lorsque l'une des deux mers est calme, la mer Ionienne ou la mer Adriatique, l'autre est agitée.

Tramontane et grecale dans le Salento : la mer au choix

La tramontane souffle du nord au sud. Pour la conformation du Salento, cela signifie que la mer Ionienne sera presque certainement calme, le vent poussant les courants marins vers le large.

La situation sur l'Adriatique, en revanche, change en fonction de l'endroit où l'on se trouve. Sur la côte nord, des marinas de Lecce à Otrante, la mer sera très agitée. Si vous aimez la voile et le kitesurf, par exemple, l'endroit idéal est Torre Chianca avec ses longues plages peu abritées du vent. Les seules exceptions sont Torre S. Andrea et la Grotta della Poesia, à Melendugno, qui sont protégées par de hautes falaises rocheuses et donc peu exposées au vent. L'Adriatique méridionale, au contraire, d'Otrante à Leuca, sera plus calme et moins agitée. Il en va de même pour la grecale. Lorsque les vents soufflent du nord-est, les plus belles plages du Salento sont la Riviera de Gallipoli, les Maldives du Salento et Torre San Giovanni.

Vents d'est : plages du Salento pour se détendre

Lorsque le vent souffle de l'est, la mer calme est la mer Ionienne, en particulier dans le tronçon qui va de Gallipoli à Tarente, en passant par les ports de plaisance de Nardò, Porto Selvaggio, Porto Cesareo et Torre Lapillo.

Sirocco et libeccio : comment démêler les deux vents dans le Salento

Le sirocco est un vent chaud et humide qui souffle du sud au nord. Contrairement à la tramontane, le scirocco agite la mer Ionienne : la mer à Gallipoli, Porto Cesareo, Pescoluse et Ugento sera ondulée et animée. La mer à Otranto, Torre dell'Orso, et Santa Cesarea sera calme et tranquille. Situation similaire avec des vents libeccio.
