Skipped vacation or postponed vacation? All it takes is a small unforeseen event to blow plans and lose money too. However, if you have taken out travel insurance with Barbarhouse, cancellation will no longer be a problem.

If you are forced to cancel your trip or change its dates before it begins, for example in case of injury or illness, with Travel Protected you don't have to worry about paying any penalties. The guarantee also works for your family members or those traveling with you, as long as they are insured.

Viaggi Protetto is UnipolSai's travel cancellation insurance, for worry-free booking with BarbarHouse

Canceling a trip often means not only giving up the trip itself after months of waiting, preparations, hopes and plans for relaxation and fun, but also being required to pay penalties.

The Travel Protected policy istravel cancellation insurance that protects you from paying the penalties involved in cancelling your reservation in the event of illness, injury, layoff or damage to your home.

In the event of trip cancellation, the Travel Protected policy is unlikely to eliminate the disappointment of missed departure, but it will be very helpful in reducing the financial consequences associated with cancellation.

The Travel Cancell ation policy reimburses penalties related to the cancellation of your stay at a BarbarHouse circuit facility, hotel or non-hotel.

The Booking Cancellation guarantee is also valid in case of epidemics, diagnosed pandemic diseases such as Covid-19, and in case of quarantine of the Insured or a traveling companion.

In the event of Italian government authority measures preventing travel, the insurance policy does not operate but you will be covered by BarbarHouse's COVID19 policy, which you can review by following this link :.COVID19 cancellation policy of BarbarHouse

Is cancellation insurance mandatory?

Travel Cancellation insurance is not mandatory, but it is recommended. By signing up for it, you can plan a trip with peace of mind, without the anxiety of having to keep your fingers crossed and your breath held for everything to go as planned until the day of departure.

Optimism is the scent of life, said poet Tonino Guerra. When you book your vacation with your family, with your love, with your friends, you almost always put in only the beautiful aspects of the adventure.

Counting the unexpected does not mean being less optimistic, just more forward-looking and making sure that where the unexpected also comes, it does not cause us too much trouble.

If the cost of your trip is high or your departure date is far away, you'll want to take out this kind of guarantee. You will simplify your life and not lose money in case of cancellation. In short, with the trip cancellation option, you pay that little bit extra that will ultimately save you money in case of the unexpected.

What happens if I cancel a trip that has already been paid for?

In case of cancellation of the reservation of a villa, hotel or any other type of accommodation, the risk is to lose most of the money spent on the purchase of the vacation.

In many cases, non-departure involves payment of the entire budgeted amount or a penalty ranging from 30 percent to 100 percent of the cost of the vacation, depending on the time at which the cancellation takes place.

For example, with a 1,000-euro travel package and a 50% penalty in case of cancellation, we would lose half of the amount spent, as much as 500 euros. Even more damaging would be cancellation with the 100% penalty that would result in the loss of the entire amount paid.

Travel Cancellation insurance guarantees on the amount at risk: with this policy you will be exempt from paying the penalties caused by the early cancellation of your vacation. You can therefore book your trip well in advance, with complete peace of mind.

What does the policy cover?

The Trip Cancellation policy provides coverage in case of cancellation or modification of your trip. The reasons for cancellation must be those stipulated in the policy or resulting from a sudden, unforeseeable, documented event beyond your control.

However, the insurance does not guarantee if the reasons for cancellation are already known when the policy is signed.

Death, illness and injury

The main obstacle to leaving for your vacation may be related to health reasons. The Travel Cancellation policy protects you if, before departure, a health problem affects you, a member of your family, or another person in the group. The policy also guarantees reimbursement in case of injury or death.

Dismissal, suspension from work or new hire

The vacations are also the most anticipated time to disconnect from everyday life and work. Sometimes it is actually a work-related problem that prevents you from leaving.

The Travel Cancellation policy guarantees in case of dismissal or suspension from work by reimbursing the penalty provided in case of cancellation. The same guarantee also intervenes if you start a new professional adventure.

Other valid reasons for the policy guarantee

By subscribing to Barbarhouse and UnipolSai's Travel Cancellation policy, you'll be covered against any unforeseen event, not known at the time of travel registration and independent of your will, that makes it impossible or inadvisable for you to leave.

Here are some examples of unforeseen events covered:

Here are some examples of uncovered contingencies:
  • my dog dies the day before departure
  • I no longer want to leave, I decided to stay in town
  • my love left me, I am sad and don't want to leave alone
  • I didn't hear the alarm clock
  • I didn't redo my passport in time
  • I didn't get the mandatory vaccines
  • I purchased the vacation without getting the agreement for the vacation that I ended up being refused
  • the airline I travel with goes on strike (a case where the airline has to reimburse you)

Please note: Reimbursement for a trip or part of a trip that has already been reimbursed in full or in part by the travel organizer is not covered, whatever the type of reimbursement (wire transfer, cash, voucher, etc.).

How to take out trip cancellation insurance?

Trip Cancellation insurance can be taken out when booking your accommodation with Barbarhouse. If you have already booked your vacation and want to take out the policy later, you can do so no later than the day before your departure date. The policy is included in the Protected Travel package.

If you want to subscribe to the policy online, the steps to follow are as follows:

  • book your accommodation online or through our call center
  • choose the Travel Protected policy from the additional options at booking;
  • select any additional guarantee extensions and get the final cost of the reservation;
  • fill in the list of guests to be insured with the required master data;
  • upon payment of the reservation, the insurance is activated directly by Barbarhouse;
  • you'll receive a named card with the policy number attesting to the activation of the guarantee.

How many travelers can cancel at the same time?

The principle of solidarity applies to all travelers registered on the same policy. Therefore, all members of the registered and insured group can cancel the trip without limit.

Example: you have booked a trip with your family and your friends' family. Unfortunately, your friends' son has an accident and the whole family prefers to stay by his side. In this case the whole file will be refunded.

Reimbursement is made only if the reason for cancellation is among those in the policy.

How is the refund calculated?

The travel policy taken out with UnipolSai covers what you are left with after the refunds made by BarbarHouse. Reimbursement limits are Euro 20,000.00 per cancellation file, extendable up to Euro 50,000.00 with the payment of an additional premium.

In case of hospitalization of more than 3 days or death, no overdraft will be applied: the reimbursement will be equal to the entire penalty, with a minimum deductible of Euro 100.00. Otherwise, a 20% overdraft will be applied with a minimum deductible of Euro 100.00.

Attention. Refunds for airport taxes, dossier fees, visa fees and insurance premium are never provided.

A deductible will be applied depending on the reason for cancellation.

Example. I break my ankle and am hospitalized: I lose ?1,000 booking fee including ?950 accommodation fee + ?50 insurance premium. In this case, the reimbursement is calculated as follows: 950 ? - 20% overdraft = 760 ?.

Example with hospitalization of more than 3 days. I am covid19 positive, I am hospitalized for more than 3 days and I lose 1000 ? of reservation including 950 ? accommodation + 50 ? insurance premium. In this case the reimbursement is calculated as follows: 950 ? - 100 ? deductible = 850 ?.
