The services guaranteed by the organizational structure
So, in case of need, with Travel Assistance of the Protected Travel policy, the Organizational Structure provides on behalf of the Company the following assistance services to insured travelers:
Medical Consultation and Referral of a Specialist - The doctors of the Organizational Structure ascertain the health condition of the insured and decide on the most appropriate medical service. If necessary, they will refer the insured person to the address of a specialist doctor in the area closest to his or her location.
Sending urgent medicines - The organizational structure provides for the sending of urgent medicines in case the insured urgently needs for the treatment of the case medicines that cannot be found locally, for which he/she has a regular prescription, provided that they are marketed in Italy. The cost of the medicines remains the responsibility of the insured.
Medical Transportation - With the underwriting of Travel Assistance, medical transportation is guaranteed to the nearest suitable place to provide emergency care, or from the medical center where initial emergency care was provided to a better equipped medical center. Use of the medical plane is limited to local travel.
Medical re-entry of the insured- Where medical re-entry of the insured is necessary, with Barbarhouse and UnipolSai's Viaggi Protetto insurance, such re-entry is arranged by the most suitable means to the place of residence or to a better equipped hospital in Italy.
Medical re-entry due to injury or illness is determined by the judgment of the doctors of the Organizational Structure, if the assisted person cannot be treated locally. The transportation, organized at UNIPOLSAI's expense, also includes medical or nursing care throughout the journey, if necessary.
Re-entry of the convalescent insured - If the insured's state of health prevents his or her re-entry by the means initially provided for in the travel contract, the Protected Trip policy is the guarantee for the re-entry of the convalescent insured. It takes place only by a means equivalent to that provided in the travel contract, exclusively by economy class flight or train. The policy also covers any additional living expenses, up to Euro 60.00 per day for a maximum of 5 days after the planned return date, if such expenses are made necessary by the insured's state of health.
Transport of the body - Protected Travel covers the costs of transporting the insured's body from the place of death to the place of residence. Expenses related to the funeral ceremony and those of any recovery and search for the body are excluded.
Return offamily members - The return of family members is covered as long as they are insured or a traveling companion, following medical re-entry and/or death of the insured.
Early re entry - The insured's return to his or her residence is guaranteed, if requested, in the event of the death of a family member in Italy, in advance of the date he or she had planned and by a means other than that provided for in the contract.
Travel ofa family member - The policy covers the travel of a family member if the Insured is hospitalized for more than 3 days , if there is no adult family member on site. Thus, in this case, round-trip economy class airfare or train ticket is reimbursed to allow a family member to join the patient.
Interpreter available abroad - If the insured person, as a result of hospitalization or legal proceedings against him/her for culpable acts occurring abroad, finds it difficult to communicate in the local language, the Organizational Structure will send and assume the costs of an interpreter, for the time necessary for his/her professional action, with total expense up to Euro 1,000.00.
Referral of a lawyer - If the insured person is outside and is held criminally or civilly liable for culpable acts attributable to him/her, the Organizational Structure will refer the name of a lawyer for his/her defense and will advance any criminal bail required by the judge, subject to adequate bank guarantee and up to the maximum amount of Euro 5,000.00.
What is excluded from the benefits
Travel Protected includes the above benefits, but there are exclusions. In fact, the guarantee lapses where the insured does not comply with the instructions provided to him by the organizational structure.
This can happen if the insured proceeds with voluntary discharge, against the advice of the doctors of the facility where he or she is hospitalized. Or if the insured, or those on his or her behalf, voluntarily refuses the prescribed transportation or medical re-entry; in such a case, health care is immediately suspended and the company will reimburse any expenses incurred by the insured, if deemed reasonable, in an amount corresponding to the cost of the refused transportation or medical re-entry.

Provisions and limitations
For certain guarantees and benefits, the Company may proceed to reimbursement in the event that, for reasons of force majeure, the insured has organized himself by bearing the expenses. Such benefits are: Medical Transportation, Medical Re-entry, Re-entry of Convalescent, Transportation of the Body, Re-entry of Family Members, Early Re-entry, and Travel of a Family Member.
The Company will provide reimbursement upon presentation of the original of the specialist doctor's certification issued on the spot and documents of medical expenses, to the extent necessary, and within the amount of Euro 1,000.00. For foreign residents traveling to Italy, and for foreign residents temporarily domiciled in Italy, there are the guarantees and benefits are recognized to the insured within the cost limits for the return / transportation to Italy. Finally, the insured must surrender unused travel tickets to the Company as a result of the benefits enjoyed.
