The different types of beaches in Puglia
The experience on Puglia's beaches becomes even more fascinating thanks to the extraordinary variety of landscapes and features. You'll find sand and pebble beaches, but also winding dunes and striking cliffs. The rock formations along the coast blend gently with the gentle sound of the waves lapping against them.

The unique geographical location of this region is reflected in its microclimates and local climatic conditions. Wind, in particular, is a predominant element, especially in Salento, famous for "the sun, the sea and the wind." This frequent wind makes some beaches ideal for water sports that require wind for a rewarding experience.
Where to go depending on the winds
If you're looking for calm waters during tramontana, we recommend heading to the Adriatic coast, especially in Salento, where you can enjoy enchanting places such as Torre Sant'Andrea, Porto Badisco and Porto Miggiano. Along the Ionian coast, on the other hand, you will find renowned destinations such as Pescoluse (the Maldives of Salento), Gallipoli and Porto Selvaggio.
To deal with the west wind, favorite destinations include Alimini, Ciolo and Santa Maria di Leuca. In the presence of sirocco, however, we recommend opting for the Adriatic coast, especially the Torre dell'Orso area. To help you choose among the beautiful beaches of Puglia, here's a breakdown by geographical area.
