Theft, destruction or loss of luggage are among the guarantees of Travel Protected, Barbarhouse's policy

The luggage guarantee of Viaggi Protetto insurance reimburses you for theft, robbery, mugging, and fire of your luggage, as well as for failure to return or damage to it caused by the carrier. How can you waive it?

Theft, loss and destruction of luggage while traveling: policy covers it

It can happen, and when it happens we always get a little upset, because we lose valuables, personal effects, memories. Luggage is not just a suitcase: it is your companion on adventures, and an unforeseen event such as its loss or destruction can really leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

The Travel Protected policy certainly cannot work magic, but it can alleviate the financial loss. The Company reimburses losses resulting from theft, robbery, mugging, and fire of luggage, insured within a sum of 750 euros, including clothing and worn items. The policy also covers failure to return or damage to the luggage by the carrier to whom it was delivered.

Provisions and limitations

Regarding the luggage guarantee,compensation will be paid to you based on the commercial value. Sentimental value will not be taken into account. Reimbursement is limited to the sum of Euro 100.00 for the remaking of identity documents.

Reimbursement is 50 % of the sum insured for the following items: jewelry, valuables, watches, furs and other valuables; photo-cineoptic equipment, radio-television equipment and electronic equipment. Please note: For these items, the guarantee is not there if the luggage containing them has been delivered to transportation companies.

In addition, reimbursement is limited to 50% of the sum insured for each individual object: photo-cineoptic equipment (lenses, filters, flashers, batteries, etc.), computers with their accessories, portable telephone with its accessories, are considered as a single object.

Objects left in the car, motorhome, caravan, motorcycle or other vehicles are covered by the insurance guarantee only if they are stored in the locked trunk, not visible from the outside, only if and the vehicle is left in a guarded paid parking lot.

In the case of damaged luggage or failure to return it, compensation will be made subsequent to that of the responsible carrier, on a proportional basis and only if the compensation obtained does not go to cover the full amount of the damage.

Basic expenses

In case of delay (more than 12 hours) or non-delivery of luggage by the carrier, thanks to your Travel Protected policy, the Company will reimburse you within the insured sum of Euro 100.00 for all expenses incurred, documented, for essential purchases made before the end of the trip.

Excess

From the amount of the indemnifiable damage, the deductible of Euro 50.00 is deducted. It will not apply to compensation due to supplement the compensation made by the carrier.

What to do in the event of a claim

In the unfortunate event that damage or loss of baggage occurs, you must report the claim to the Company within 15 days from the date of return in one of the following ways:

If you opt for paper submission, then you will need to make sure that the request is complete with the following documents in original:

  • Last name, first name, address, tax code, identification data of the "Travel Protected" Card, IBAN code;
  • detailed description of the circumstances under which the claim occurred;
  • description, value, date of purchase of lost or damaged items, repair estimate or declaration of non-repairability;
  • in the case of luggage entrusted to the air carrier, a copy of the report of loss or damage (RIB or PIR, issued by the "Lost and Found" office of the Airport Authority) and a copy of the letter of claim sent within the legal terms to the air carrier and any response from the same will also be needed.

If the air carrier does not respond within 90 days from the date of sending the letter of claim, you may notify the Company of the lack of response, in which case the Company will settle the compensation due according to the terms of the policy, subject to the application of the contractual deductible of 50.00 euros. The Company reserves the right of subrogation against the Carrier itself.

Finally, it is obligatory to notify the Company of all further sums, if any, received from anyone by way of indemnity for the same damage and to promptly return to the Company any amounts not contractually due;

  • in the case of luggage entrusted to the maritime carrier, land carrier or hotelier, will serve a copy of the claim, duly countersigned for receipt by the carrier or hotelier and their response;
  • in the case of undelivered luggage, you will need a copy of the complaint to the authority of the place where the incident occurred and a copy of the written complaint to any responsible parties (hotel, restaurant, garage) and their response;
  • finally, in the case of essential purchases, receipts documenting the cost and nature of the goods purchased will be needed.

Additional obligations for those with the Travel Protected policy.

As a subscriber to the Viaggi Protetto policy tailored for Barbarhouse clients in agreement with the UnipolSai insurance agency, you are obliged to safeguard the Company's right of recourse against the person responsible for the loss or damage of luggage.

For this reason you will have to make an immediate written claim against the hotelier, carrier or any other responsible party. You will also necessarily have to report cases of theft, mugging or robbery to the Authority of the place where the unfortunate event will have occurred.
