Puglia's blue flags and the criteria that make them winners
The Apulian coast and its wonders certainly deserve luster and recognition. It is no coincidence that for 2022 the region had a total of 50 award-winning beaches, a positive record for Puglia, which makes the beauty of its sea one of its greatest assets.
The criteria by which the Blue Flag beaches were determined are as many as 32. Among them, of course, is the quality of the water but also the efficiency of sewage treatment and sewerage system, the presence of services for separate waste collection and adequate pedestrian areas as well as bicycle paths, green areas and not least the absence of architectural barriers.
In short, beauty is not up for debate but virtuosity is earned through hard work. Among Apulia's Blue Flags for 2022 let's find out together now the new additions to the shortlist of winners.
Rodi Garganico, all the beauty of the sea
Among the new Blue Flags of Puglia for 2022, starting from the north we meet Rodi Garganico, a small pearl on the famous Apulian promontory. A small village in the center of a charming 12-km-long sandy coastline. The promontory where its town stands breaks up the regularity of the beach, dividing it into an east beach and a west beach.
The eastern beach is a long tongue of sand that is particularly sheltered from the winds: at 4 km long, it stretches all the way to San Menaio beach.
The west beach is home to well-known lidos such as Baia Santa Barbara and Lido del Sole among the most popular in the whole of Puglia with high-level accommodations, splendid villas, stores and many places of leisure and entertainment.

Ugento and its Natural Park
The marinas of Ugento with their 12 km of coastline open into wide sandy beaches alternating with low and accessible cliffs. A daydream as well as Blue Flag 2022. An environmental jewel, much of which constitutes the Ugento Natural Park created to keep the unique characteristics of the place intact.
Among the beaches to see in Ugento Marina are certainly those of Torre Mozza and Torre San Giovanni, small towns named after the Saracen towers that line their coastline.
Castro, the Source and the Zinzulusa
The area of the center of Castro Marina is the beating heart of the summer in the small village of the Salento Adriatic. Among the beauties not far from the center, the Zinzulusa cave stands out, which for its naturalistic uniqueness has been included among the ten most important caves in the world. It can be accessed directly from the coast by descending the steps leading to its entrance.
Precisely because of its rocky and scenic conformation, the coast of Castro Marina does not have real beaches but is dotted with small direct accesses to the sea, and these are the added value of the Blue Flag resort. Along the coastline, in fact there are many equipped lidos with platforms on the rocks where you can enjoy sun and sea in comfort.
