La cathédrale et sa crypte

Parmi les sept plus belles églises de Lecce, la présence majestueuse de la cathédrale Santa Maria Assunta, située sur la Piazza del Duomo, se distingue. Fondée en 1114 à l'époque normande, cette magnifique structure a été entièrement reconstruite à partir de 1659 par l'architecte Giuseppe Zimbalo, à la demande de l'évêque Luigi Pappacoda. Réalisée en pierre calcaire typique de Lecce, la cathédrale présente un imposant plan à trois nefs et un clocher panoramique qui a également servi à des mesures géodésiques au XIXe siècle.

Lacrypte est le joyau caché de la cathédrale de Lecce. Elle couvre la quasi-totalité de la surface de l'église, bien qu'une grande partie de l'espace n'ait pas encore été mise en lumière.

Les peintures des deux autels du transept gauche, Notre-Dame de la Honte et Sainte Irène, l'ancienne patronne de Lecce, et celles des deux autels du transept droit, la Visitation de Marie à Sainte Élisabeth et la fresque de Marie et Saint Jean sous la Croix , sont d'une grande valeur.

L'environnement le plus frappant mis en lumière est la galerie qui, partant de l'entrée de la crypte, s'étend sur plusieurs dizaines de mètres parallèlement à toute la nef de la cathédrale supérieure.

L'église Saint-Matthieu

L'église Saint-Matthieu, quant à elle, impressionne par ses formes curvilignes et la somptuosité de ses lignes architecturales. Construite en 1667 par l'architecte Achille Larducci, elle aurait été inspirée par l'église borrominienne de San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane à Rome. À l'intérieur, une vaste nef elliptique abrite les statues des Apôtres, tandis que les moniales assistent aux offices liturgiques depuis les fenêtres à meneaux de la nef.

L'église Sainte-Claire

L'église Sainte-Claire, fondée en 1429 et rénovée entre 1687 et 1691, est un joyau de l'architecture baroque des Clarisses, ordre monastique fondé par saint François et sainte Claire d'Assise. À l'intérieur, le plan octogonal et les autels opulents témoignent de l'esprit contemplatif et de l'isolement de l'ordre.

Extraordinary openings in the province of LecceIn the province of Lecce, as many as 13 extraordinary openings are planned for this occasion.
