Without parochialism, but with a pan-southern vision, luminarists from Puglia, Campania, Sicily, Calabria, Basilicata and Molise joined their energies to support this initiative.
"We have highlighted the artistic value, the ability to combine the tradition of woodworking and assembly," they write from the Promoting Committee, "with the most modern electronic technology and the success that the luminarias have achieved in the world, also becoming testimonials of major brands of style, fashion and entertainment.

The fascinating history of Luminarias: ancient origins, modern evolution
The origins of illuminations date back to antiquity, when torches and candles were used to light the streets during public celebrations and religious festivals. However, the evolution to the elaborate lighting structures we know today has more recent roots, dating back to 17th-century Italy.
The earliest luminarias, called "festoni," consisted of simple strings lit with candles or lanterns. Over time, these decorations evolved, becoming more complex and artistic, with the addition of innovative colors, shapes and materials.

Art, Technique and Creativity: the work of Luminarists
The making of illuminations is an art that requires technical skill, creativity and patience. Luminaria craftsmen, called "luminarists," use a variety of materials, including wood, metal and plastic, to create light structures of different shapes and sizes.
The traditional technique involves the use of twisted metal wires and incandescent or LED lights, arranged to form complex and imaginative designs. Luminarists work by hand, bending and welding the metal wires to create geometric shapes, arches, garlands and other decorative figures. In addition to technique, creativity plays a key role in luminaria design.
Environmental Impact and Sustainability: toward responsible use of luminarias
Although luminarias can raise concerns about environmental impact, especially if they are not used responsibly, the positive trend is toward greater sustainability. More and more illuminations are being made with energy-efficient LED lights and recyclable materials. In addition, many communities are taking measures to reduce light pollution by limiting the use and intensity of lights during nighttime hours.
